🌮 Taco Tuesday: An Impromptu Snowfall Trip to Wrightwood with Mazhar

A spontaneous escape to the mountains after a few quick texts, catching a fresh, quiet snowfall just before the crowds arrived.

A spontaneous "Taco Tuesday" text message turns into a perfectly timed snow trip to a quiet, empty Wrightwood.

Mazhar and I were both working from home during the winter of 2024. We knew a winter storm was expected to bring heavy snow to the local mountains, and we had our eyes on Wrightwood. Early that morning, a steady rain started falling down in the valley. Because it was a Tuesday, around 10:00 AM, I sent Mazhar a quick text: “Taco Tuesday.” He called me right back, and we started talking about the snow accumulation up on the peaks. He mentioned he had a work meeting in about twenty minutes, so we hung up with the mutual understanding that work had to come first.

About ten minutes later, my phone rang again. It was Mazhar. He told me he was wrapping things up and could leave in ten minutes. I told him, “I’ll be ready.”

He picked me up in his Jeep, and we headed straight up to Wrightwood. When we arrived, the town was incredibly quiet—there was absolutely no one else up there yet. We had the whole place to ourselves, surrounded by a pristine, white, powdery snowfall. We spent our time taking photos, enjoying the quiet mountain air, and making a wonderful memory before heading back down.

As we were leaving around 2:00 PM, we watched a massive line of heavy traffic just starting to crawl its way up towards the resort and town. We had managed to time it perfectly, getting back home before 3:00 PM.

It was truly an unforgettable “Taco Tuesday.”
